Meet The Board

The Board has nine members including the Chief Officer and a Crown Court judge. Members currently serve for three years and may be reappointed for one further term of three years. Board Meetings are held monthly and are open to the public.

Sussex Probation Board Members

John Steele - Board Chair   Lives in Horsham, West Sussex. Has held senior positions in the Police Service, the Prison Service and the Home Office. Brings to the Board his wide experience of strategic, financial and personnel management. Has experience of contestability in the Prison Service. Previously an elected member in several local authorities including the London Borough of Lambeth.
Susan Elizabeth Lives in Horsham, West Sussex, and has wide experience in the voluntary sector engaged mainly in reconnecting marginalised individuals with mainstream society. Her roles have included Chief Executive of the Camelot Foundation, Deputy Director of the National Council of One Parent Families, and currently she is a Trustee of Guy's and St Thomas's Charity. She brings a breadth of experience and understanding of the complex issues of disadvantage and offending, and a measured but positive approach to problems.
Jacqueline Pendleton Lives in Middleton on Sea. Spent most of her adult life living in London, East Grinstead and Henley on Thames. Grew up in West Sussex where she was educated in addition to periods of travelling around the world with family who were attached to the Armed forces. Has worked in business most of her life, a large proportion of which has been spent in British Airways as both a human resources professional and an operational line manager. Latterly took on responsibility for running the BA Cargo business when it was going through a complex period of change in facilities, processes, behaviours and work ethic. Subsequent to that she worked in a juvenile prison and gained a further BA in Psychology & Sociology and an MSc in Forensic Psychology. Is a member of the IMB at HMYOI Huntercombe (former Chair). She has a sound understanding of the complexity of criminal justice. Both a leader and team player.
Charles Everett Lives in Robertsbridge, East Sussex. He is a recently retired Senior Civil Servant with broad experience as a senior manager. He has managed large contracts including the successful delivery of a major PFI building project and turning around the performance of a large IT contract. Recently appointed Chair of the Hastings & Rother PCT. He brings to the Board a clear business focus, coupled with a measured style and preference for achieving consensus.
Zena Cairns Lives in Henfield, West Sussex, and until recently was a commercial manager with BT. When living in Somerset she co-founded a Flood Action Group in her village which was successful in delivering a major flood relief scheme. She brings a wide range of skills to the Board, with a focus on clarity of objectives and successful delivery.
Stewart Neal   Lives in East Grinstead. A chemist by training, he has a wide range of international business experience within a multinational company, and latterly was a partner in a risk management and corporate social responsibility consultancy. He also does voluntary work in the community. He brings to the Board a range of financial and strategic business skills, an understanding of working with different nationalities, and a focus on achieving high performance.
Sandie Moore   Lives in Maidenbower, West Sussex and has 21 years experience in education with her least post being that of a head teacher. Has run a concierge business and been a part-time non-executive director of the Crawley Primary Care Trust. Currently, a magistrate on the Sussex - Northern Bench
